Senior PR Manager

$70,000 - $90,000 yearly

Job Description

Position Summary

The Sr. PR Manager has at least four years of public relations experience, or equivalent marketing and communications experience. The Sr. PR Manager owns successful client relationship management and the implementation of work across multiple national brands, while providing positive workplace leadership across the agency. This is a senior individual contributor role with growing leadership scope: the Sr. PR Manager operates with a high degree of autonomy, serves as a day-to-day strategic partner to clients, supports and mentors Account Coordinators, and reports progress and elevates pertinent issues to agency leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  1.  Media Relations & PR Execution
  2. Client Relationship Management
  3. Strategic Planning & Innovation
  4. Reporting, Analytics & Data Interpretation
  5. Account Leadership & Team Support
  6. Culture & Agency Contribution

Media Relations & PR Execution

  • Serves as a primary client and media contact for 4–5 national outdoor, lifestyle, or consumer-tech brands.

  • Develops and executes strategic PR plans that deliver on client goals, including product launches, sales moments, award applications, and long-form brand stories.

  • Writes compelling press releases, pitches, talking points, and award submissions; shapes client inputs into media-first, newsworthy stories.

  • Pitches client stories to media, follows up on opportunities, and adapts approach based on response and performance.

  • Builds comprehensive, high-quality media lists through primary research and tools (e.g., Muck Rack, SOV data).

  • Nurtures excellent media relationships, responds promptly and thoroughly to requests, and facilitates the best possible product experience for editors and creators.

  • Uses creative, original writing that avoids overused PR language and marketing hyperbole.

Client Relationship Management

  • Consistently delivers superior client service, building trust that is reflected in high client satisfaction and retention.

  • Acts as a trusted advisor and strategic partner — not just a service provider — bringing a clear point of view and recommendations to client conversations.

  • Regularly updates clients on progress, communicates changes or delays clearly, manages expectations, and pushes back professionally when needed.

  • Contributes to and communicates clear short-term (60–90 day) roadmaps and assists with longer-term (90+ day) planning.

  • Keeps all client-facing communication on-brand and consistent with agency standards.

Strategic Planning & Innovation

  • Develops and presents strategic plans, performance recaps, and new strategic directions.

  • Brings fresh, proactive ideas to the table, especially during slower news cycles — tapping trends, cultural moments, and less traditional angles to generate coverage.

  • Oversees and guides the successful execution and measurement of campaigns.

  • Stays current on each client’s industry, competitive landscape, and media coverage, and challenges the status quo with new communication concepts.

Reporting, Analytics & Data Interpretation

  • Owns accurate, precise performance reporting and delivers polished, visually engaging reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly cadence.

  • Goes beyond raw metrics — analyzes trends, interprets results, and explains the “why” behind performance.

  • Defines, tracks, and presents KPIs (impressions, search visibility, engagement, click performance) and links PR efforts to client goals.

  • Translates data into clear, proactive recommendations for optimization and future planning, including share-of-voice and search-visibility (AEO/GEO) insights via tools such as Muck Rack Generative Pulse.

Account Leadership & Team Support

  • Takes full ownership of client projects from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with strategy and timelines.

  • Operates autonomously and self-manages daily tasks by urgency and importance amid a demanding, largely digital routine.

  • Provides proactive, clear communication vertically and laterally — keeping leadership looped in, junior staff clear on next steps, and cross-functional teammates aware of deadlines.

  • Collaborates with internal PR, affiliate, and influencer teams to deliver seamless integrated campaigns.

  • Supports, mentors, and helps develop Account Coordinators — setting clear expectations, delegating effectively, and giving constructive feedback.

  • Attends trade shows, sales meetings, and in-person media meetings on behalf of clients.

Culture & Agency Contribution

  • Embodies and promotes agency values as defined in “Our Why.”

  • Accepts feedback constructively and demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn.

  • Identifies broken systems and takes the lead on improving processes as the agency scales.

  • Brings a positive, team-first attitude, workplace empathy, and inclusive camaraderie to every interaction.

What You Bring (job requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 4 years of public relations experience, with at least 3 years in outdoor/active lifestyle categories (consumer electronics/travel experience is a plus).

  • Strong, proven ability to write and edit compelling content, translating complex ideas into succinct, persuasive language.

  • Strategic, forward-thinking mindset with high data fluency.

  • Comfortable building, interpreting, and presenting KPIs and reporting, and proficient in industry tools (e.g., Muck Rack, Asana).

  • Experience providing senior-level strategic counsel to clients and mentoring junior team members.

  • Strong, established active-lifestyle or national media relationships.

  • Exposure to influencer/creator strategy and integrated campaigns.

  • Self-motivated, hyper-organized, creative, and collaborative, with a sense of humor and a love of the outdoors.
