Silver Star Communications’ rich history began in 1912 by a group of ranchers and businessmen. Because the population was not large enough to attract the Bell Telephone Company to lower Star Valley Wyoming, the group utilized livestock fencing to carry telephone lines across the valley. In 1956, the Hoopes family purchased the company which has been owned by the family since that time.

In 1990, Silver Star placed the first fiber optic cable in our local exchange area. Since then, we have built out more than 1,800 miles of company-owned fiber optic cable in our network in both local and competitive exchanges. With peering connectivity to Salt Lake, Denver, Seattle and Chicago, our rural customers are solidly connected to the rest of the world.

Today, Silver Star continues to serve Customers in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming.  Our company continues to invest millions of dollars in its fiber optic network to deliver cutting edge communications solutions including fiber optic, DSL and wireless internet, voice, mobile phone and business solutions products and services.

As a partially employee-owned (ESOP) company, Silver Star employees 127 people in Star Valley and Jackson, Wyoming as well as in Teton Valley, Swan Valley, Idaho Falls and Rexburg, Idaho.

Silver Star takes great pride in providing above-and-beyond customer service with a local touch and actively supports the rural communities it serves. Our Caring for Community program supports local nonprofit organizations with over $25,000 in donations a year. All Silver Star employees are committed to giving back by serving in at least one community service project a year.
