About Us: Born of the merger of High Country Flies and Jack Dennis Sports, established in 1974 and 1972 respectively, we have been the preeminent retail store serving the needs of local and visiting outdoors enthusiasts in the Jackson Hole area for over four decades. JD High Country Outfitters is founded on the principles of consistently offering the finest products in the outdoor industry, combined with an emphasis on a team with specialized expertise and excellent customer service. Located on the famous Town Square in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, we are a complete Outdoor Store with Fishing, Hunting, Camping and Outdoor clothing departments.

We are looking for an experienced Director of Operations to organize, lead and oversee the daily operations of our company. You will be the one to ensure that our business is well-coordinated and productive by managing its procedures and coaching its people.

The area of responsibility for this role is wide-ranging and requires thorough knowledge of various company processes, financial oversight and skillful people management. The ideal candidate includes experience in the retail industry and have a passion for the outdoors and Jackson Hole.

The goal is to safeguard and augment the efficiency of the company’s operations to facilitate accelerating growth and long-term success.


  • Liaise with owners to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals
  • Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure smooth progress
  • Supervise staff from different departments and provide constructive feedback
  • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
  • Oversee customer support processes and organize them to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
  • Identify and create effective marketing and promotional strategies for products and initiatives
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Significant management experience with at least three of those years in a senior level retail management position
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation (Federal Firearms Licensee requirement)
  • Familiarity with MS Office and various business software (e.g. ERP, CRM)
  • BSc/BA in business administration or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time

Must be willing to travel utilizing various transportation methods
