Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plan and conduct classes to teach conversational skills, reading, and writing to ESL students.
  2. Assist students who are studying for their U.S. citizenship examination.
  3. Assess students’ entry and exit levels by pre and post testing with BEST or BEST Plus or TABE Clas-E or other testing process, as appropriate.
  4. Assist students in developing appropriate educational and career goals.
  5. Select appropriate curricula materials considering students’ goals and ability levels.
  6. Assist in the recruitment of prospective students.
  7. Maintain accurate records of students to include registration, attendance, assessment, and progress reports and submit them to the Riverton Office weekly.
  8. Conduct online/distance instruction with approved learning management platforms.
  9. Operate within the guidelines set forth in the College’s policies, procedures and practices.
  10. Attend Annual WY Adult Education Summer Institute Training Conference, usually three days in August.
  11. Create and participate in ongoing professional development plan.
  12. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.


Position Specifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related-field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Experience
    • Two years’ classroom teaching experience working with adults in a remedial or pre-college setting.
  • Licenses/Certifications
    • Possess and maintain a valid State of Wyoming driver’s license, or ability obtain Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire, and be insurable by the college’s insurance carrier.
  • Equivalency Statement
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.


Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency or fluency in additional languages.
  • Possession of recent successful experience in teaching college-level courses in English as a Second Language.
  • Training and/or experience in effectively addressing the needs and goals of ESL students with differing abilities, needs, goals, and levels of preparation
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking additional languages and/or significant practice, experience, and education with language acquisition.

  2. Considerable knowledge of discipline taught.

  3. Considerable knowledge of English as a Second Language teaching methods

  4. Considerable knowledge of various instructional pedagogies and technologies that enhance attainment of student learning outcomes.

  5. General knowledge of best practices in adult education and learning.

  6. General knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and assessment.

  7. Ability to establish a student-instructor relationship conducive to learning and promote active involvement of students in learning activities.

  8. Possess interpersonal skills with ability to relate to a broad range of students from a diverse population in a professional, helpful manner.

  9. Proficient oral and written communication skills.

  10. Ability to organize, prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks to completion within established timeframes.

  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to effectively identify and resolve problems.

  12. Ability to collaborate and work with colleagues in a team setting.

  13. Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to use personal computer software, preferably Microsoft Office and Google applications.

  14. Ability to work effectively on an independent basis.

  15. Working knowledge of CWC policies, procedures and practices.

  16. Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation with the college and the community.

  17. Ability to work in a caring and compassionate manner with adult learners.
